Take a comprehensive look at the composition of commonly available chewing gum on a market. Examine your gums up close. Turn the packages and see through. You will be surprised. Health is only one – protect it. You may change your shopping habits, or maybe not. It’s up to each of us.
Composition of Commonly Available Chewing Gums
I have selected the most frequently occurring composition of chewing gums in almost all supermarkets in the Czech market. I have highlighted in red “controversial gum additives“, which, while not banned in our country, are recommended to be avoided. It is often stated that these ingredients should not be consumed by children, pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Commonly Available Chewing Gum
Sweeteners sorbitol, xylitol, aspartame, mannitol, acesulfame K, chewing gum base, thickener gum arabic, flavor, humectant glycerol, emulsifier soy lecithin, glazing agent carnauba wax, antioxidant BHA, Coloring E171 – titanium dioxide, carmine (E120), brilliant blue FCF (E133).
Change of Shopping Habit
This is what the composition of chewing gum commonly available in our stores looks like.
For the illustrative chewing gum, there are no colorings, but for curiosity, I have added those that appear in the ingredients of commonly available chewing gums. I recommend paying attention to them and rather avoiding them (1 gum usually does not contain multiple colors).
Consider whether you want gums that contain these “controversial additives.” Perhaps it’s time to change your shopping habits and choose healthy chewing gums instead. It’s up to each of you 😉
